The Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (KIAC) in Dawson City, Yukon, is bringing back its Honky Tonk Music Camp from August 5 to 7, 2026. The three-day camp offers workshops in old time, country, and bluegrass styles for beginners and intermediate musicians.
Participants can choose from nine workshops each day, running from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Options include country fiddle, honky tonk piano, country electric guitar, harmony singing, bluegrass banjo, finger-style guitar, old time fiddle, upright bass, rhythm guitar, and flat foot dancing. Ten instructors from across North America are leading the sessions, including Beth Chrisman from Austin, Texas, Antonio Romero from Nashville, and The McMillan’s Camp Boys from Halifax.
The camp takes place at KIAC’s home in the Dënäkär Zho building at 902 2nd Avenue. Registration costs $350 for the full camp with food, $200 for the camp only, $125 for a single day with food, or $75 for a single day without meals. Campers who choose the food package get lunch and dinner served at the local Anglican Church. Camping is available at the Gold Rush Campground for $44 per night.
The music camp leads right into the Dawson City Honky Tonk Festival, running August 7 to 9, so participants can keep the music going all week. Anyone interested can sign up through the KIAC website.
