Hanover police are asking for the public’s help to find a weapon, possibly a machete, used in an early morning assault in a motel parking lot on July 3, 2026.
A 35-year-old man with no fixed address has been arrested and remains in custody, but officers have not been able to find the weapon. Police say the accused attacked another man, broke his cell phone, and chased him while carrying a bag that held what looked like a machete.
The victim suffered minor injuries. Officers later found and arrested the suspect on 10th Street without any trouble. The man is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, two counts of breach of probation, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Investigators with the Hanover Police Service are still searching for the concealed weapon about a month after the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Hanover Police or call Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce to leave an anonymous tip.
