Residents can grab a burger and support end-of-life care in their community at a fundraiser outside the Camrose Co-op Food Store on August 14, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, sponsored by the Camrose Co-op store, will see all proceeds after costs go to the Hospice Society of Camrose and District (HSCD).
The burger sale is a direct way for neighbours to help fund HSCD’s work, which includes 18 different programs providing palliative and grief support to people in Camrose and the surrounding counties of Beaver, Camrose, and Flagstaff. The society does not run a physical hospice building but brings care into homes, hospitals, and long-term care facilities.
Founded in 2011 by Beverly Drever and Treva Olson, HSCD has relied on community fundraisers and volunteer hours to fill gaps in government funding. In 2018 alone, volunteers logged between 250 and 300 hours a month. The money raised from the burger sale will help keep services like grief companioning, children’s grief groups, and support for those with chronic illness running.
Wild Rose Co-operative, which operates the food store at 5010 48a Avenue, gives more than $100,000 in donations and sponsorships each year to local causes across the region. Its support for the burger sale is part of that ongoing commitment to the community.
