A traffic stop on Highway 6 south of Grosse Isle, Manitoba, led to the seizure of over a kilogram of methamphetamine and roughly 700 suspected fentanyl pills, RCMP say. Two people face charges following the July 22, 2026, stop.
RCMP Traffic Services pulled over a vehicle around 7:30 a.m. on July 22 in the RM of Rosser. Officers learned the two people inside had driven overnight from Thompson to Winnipeg. Police believed the pair had cash from illegal activity and arrested them, seizing more than $10,000 in cash.
The male passenger gave officers a fake name, police later discovered. He was already wanted on a drug trafficking warrant. A search of his Winnipeg home turned up about one kilogram of methamphetamine, roughly 700 suspected fentanyl pills, score sheets, and other evidence.
Malcolm Lado, 23, of Winnipeg, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and failing to comply with a release order. A 24-year-old Winnipeg woman faces a charge of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Highway 6 is the main road connecting Winnipeg to Thompson and other northern Manitoba communities. It has been flagged as a key route for drug trafficking. This case follows several major enforcement actions this year, including a record $37.2 million drug seizure in May 2026 and RCMP’s Project Darling earlier in 2026, which targeted drug shipments between Winnipeg and northern communities like Thompson, Island Lake, and Oxford House.
The investigation remains ongoing.
