Pitt Meadows residents who want a bigger say in local decisions can now put their name forward for the upcoming municipal election. The City of Pitt Meadows is accepting nominations from September 1 to 11 for the October 17, 2026 vote, when locals will choose one mayor, six councillors, and two school trustees for School District No. 42.
Kate Barchard, the city’s Chief Election Officer, is overseeing the candidate intake and election process. Anyone interested in running can contact her directly for nomination papers. All seven council seats will be on the ballot, including the mayor’s seat held by Nicole MacDonald since 2022.
Residents who want to vote but haven’t yet registered have until August 18 to do so through Elections BC. After that date, people can still register through the city, but doing it early helps speed up voting on election day. Youth aged 16 and 17 can also get a head start by signing up for the Future Voters List, which adds them to the provincial voters list automatically once they turn 18.
The city is hoping to see more people at the polls this time after a low 23.3 per cent turnout in 2022, well below the provincial average. That year, only 3,391 ballots were cast. The current council has been managing a $63.7 million budget that kept Pitt Meadows’ property taxes among the lowest in the region, with an annual increase of $181 for the average homeowner.
