Brandon police dealt with a violent knife attack, a significant drug seizure, and several property crimes between July 28 and 30, 2026. The incidents kept officers busy across the city, from an apartment on Willowdale Crescent to a walking path in Riverheights.
The most serious call came early on July 30, when a 54-year-old man was attacked by his 44-year-old roommate with a butcher knife inside their apartment in the 3500 block of Willowdale Crescent. The victim suffered cuts to his hand and face, along with a deep wound to his neck, and was rushed to hospital by ambulance. Police arrested the roommate for aggravated assault.
Just before that, at 2:10 a.m. on July 30, officers pulled over a vehicle in the 100 block of 1st Street North and found about four ounces of cocaine split into 10 baggies. They also grabbed a cellphone, a digital scale, and some cash. A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. Brandon Police Service continues to investigate.
Officers also wrapped up an older case when a 36-year-old woman was charged with impaired driving after blood tests showed 225 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The test followed a single-vehicle crash back on May 11, 2026. She was already in custody at the Women’s Correctional Centre and had a court date on July 30.
On the property crime front, a stolen black 2011 Mercedes-Benz SUV turned up on the morning of July 29. It was found empty on a walking path near the 000 block of Riverheights Drive. The SUV had been linked to a shoplifting report at a gas station on Middleton Drive. Police also looked into a break-in at Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School, where suspects climbed through a window around 12:45 a.m. on July 25. They are reviewing security footage to figure out if anything was taken or damaged.
From a garage on Hemlock Crescent, a thief got away with a white 2012 Hyundai Veloster hatchback and an electric scooter. The theft happened sometime between 2 p.m. on July 27 and 9:30 a.m. on July 28. The car has license plate GYV 772.
Beyond those incidents, police executed four arrest warrants and took four people into custody for breach of the peace. Several others were held for public intoxication under the province’s Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act. Court dates for the people charged range from late July to October 2026, including September 28 and October 8.
