Tillsonburg Town Council reviewed Highway 19 safety during their August 10, 2026 meeting, responding to a pattern of recent collisions in the area. The discussion follows a single-vehicle crash on May 13, 2026 that closed the highway for several hours and a fatal motorcycle-truck collision on July 28, 2026 near Tillsonburg.
The Traffic Advisory Committee, which includes Ontario Provincial Police representation, will examine the road to identify safety concerns and potential improvements. Council endorsed the town’s first Transportation Master Plan on July 13, 2026, providing a framework for future transportation projects.
Tillsonburg has seen significant growth of 17.2% since 2016, making traffic safety an increasing concern. Recent Oxford County recommendations include electronic speed feedback signs and a Community Safety Zone on Oxford Road 20/North Street E.
At the same meeting, council approved repairs to the north entrance concrete and stair replacement at the Community Centre. They also received a presentation on the new Oxford County Official Plan, which is undergoing a multi-year update with a first draft expected in early 2028.
In other business, council directed staff to investigate sponsorship opportunities through a new town-wide “Sponsorship, Partnership and Community Revenue Policy” to reduce reliance on taxpayer funding for community amenities.
