Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is hiring substitute teachers and substitute education assistants for Fort Saskatchewan-area schools for the 2026-27 school year. Applications for substitute teachers close September 30, 2026, while education assistant applications are due October 23, 2026.
The positions are posted on the EIPS careers page, with applications submitted through the division’s online portal. Substitute education assistants earn $23.75 per hour and can work at multiple schools across the division.
EIPS is one of Alberta’s largest school divisions, serving about 17,750 students in 43 schools. Fort Saskatchewan is the fastest-growing community in the division, with a population of 29,857 as of April 2024.
Teachers working in eligible Alberta communities with populations under 30,000 may qualify for the Canada Student Loan Forgiveness program. Those who complete at least 400 hours of in-person teaching can receive up to $4,000 in loan forgiveness in the first year, increasing to a maximum of $8,000 by the fifth year.
Most EIPS schools in Fort Saskatchewan are aging, with all except SouthPointe School ranging from 42 to 68 years old. SouthPointe School is already at 93 per cent capacity. The Alberta government has announced funding for a new combined junior-senior high school in Fort Saskatchewan to replace Fort Saskatchewan High and Rudolph Hennig Junior High.
