The Black Gold School Division is welcoming 33 new teachers for the 2026-2027 school year, bringing fresh faces to classrooms in Beaumont, Leduc, and surrounding communities as students started school on August 27.
According to the Black Gold School Division, most of the new hires are educators new to the profession, while some are experienced teachers joining from other school divisions.
Before the first day of school, all new teachers took part in an onboarding workshop on August 24 at the division office in Nisku. The session covered Black Gold’s core values, employee resource groups, wellness resources, Indigenous learning, artificial intelligence in the classroom, and curriculum.
The division is Alberta’s seventh largest public school authority, serving about 13,500 students across 32 schools in communities including Beaumont, Calmar, Devon, Leduc, Leduc County, New Sarepta, Thorsby, and Warburg. The new teachers join a staff of approximately 768 teachers and 603 support staff.
This hiring comes as Alberta has committed $200 million to hire 1,400 teachers province wide for the 2026-27 school year to help reduce class sizes in Kindergarten to Grade 9 classrooms. Black Gold’s new teachers are part of that broader effort to support students and address classroom complexity.
