Delson McCorrister, a 21-year-old Peguis First Nation member, has been elected as a Community Fund Trustee for the Peguis Treaty Land Entitlement Trust. The Trust announced McCorrister’s appointment on August 26, 2026.
McCorrister is currently studying for a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Manitoba’s I.H. Asper School of Business, with a double major in finance and accounting. He plans to become a Chartered Professional Accountant.
The Trust said McCorrister’s education and commitment to his community will bring a valuable perspective to the fund. The Community Fund is a $5 million trust within the larger Treaty Land Entitlement settlement, and its income supports education, culture, recreation, and business development projects in Peguis.
The Treaty Land Entitlement settlement dates back to Treaty 1, signed in 1871, which promised Peguis First Nation 160 acres for each family of five. Due to disputes and improper surveys, the First Nation did not receive all the land it was owed. The claim was settled in 2008, providing Peguis with up to 166,794 acres of additional reserve land and about $64 million in financial compensation from Canada and Manitoba.
