Starting Tuesday, September 8, construction on Grimsby’s Downtown Reimagined project will shift east along Main Street East, bringing new traffic patterns for drivers in Grimsby, Ontario.
After crews wrapped overnight work at the Main Street and Elm Street intersection, they will return to daytime hours and begin installing watermains between Elm Street and Kingsway Boulevard, continuing toward Robinson Street North.
Main Street East through the work zone will be open to one-way eastbound traffic toward Beamsville. Westbound travel toward downtown will be restricted beyond Kingsway Boulevard to start the week, and as crews move east it will be restricted to Robinson Street. A temporary full road closure will be required at the Rossmore Avenue and Main Street intersection when construction reaches that area.
No construction will take place on Monday, September 7, for the Labour Day holiday. The Town of Grimsby has published signed detour routes and a full traffic plan on its website to help residents navigate the changes.
The Downtown Reimagined project is about 25 to 30 per cent complete. The original October 31, 2026, deadline has been moved to November 30, 2026, due to car-sized boulders, weather delays, and difficult underground conditions. The $9.1 million project includes a $1.9 million government grant for the watermain component.
Downtown Grimsby remains open and accessible throughout construction. The Grimsby Farmers’ Market continues every Thursday at the Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre behind Town Hall through October 8.
