Grimsby residents dealing with flooded basements and storm damage now have a dedicated way to report their concerns to the Town. On August 19, 2026, the Town of Grimsby added a flooding option to its online Report an Issue tool, making it easier to formally log storm-related problems such as basement flooding, suspected sewer backups, overland flooding, and roadside flooding.
According to the Town of Grimsby, the new reporting option ensures every concern is formally logged, directed to the appropriate staff, and reviewed as quickly as possible. Residents can access the tool through the Town’s website.
The change comes after a series of intense summer rainfall events caused significant flooding across the community. Between July 21 and August 2, Grimsby received multiple heavy downpours, including 80 to 110 millimetres of rain in 90 minutes on July 21, 50 to 90 millimetres on July 27, and up to 105 millimetres on August 2. Some residents experienced flooded basements and property damage, though no injuries, rescues, or evacuations were reported.
While neighbouring municipalities declared states of emergency, Grimsby did not. Mayor Jeff Jordan said declaring an emergency would not have provided additional powers, funding, or resources beyond what the Town already had. Instead, the Town is responding through other measures, including temporarily waiving fees for sewer service connection investigations and backwater valve permits to help residents understand and prevent future flooding.
Grimsby Town Council also passed four resolutions on August 10, 2026, directing staff to develop a flood mitigation strategy, review the stormwater drainage system, map flooding hotspots, and advocate to the Province for expanded disaster assistance. The new online flooding report tool is one more step in that ongoing response.
