Pitt Meadows residents can once again water their lawns once a week after Metro Vancouver downgraded water restrictions from Stage 2 to Stage 1 effective Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The change means the ban on all lawn watering is lifted, though limits remain in place until October 15.
Under Stage 1, even-numbered addresses may water lawns on Saturdays, while odd-numbered addresses can water on Sundays. Automatic watering is allowed from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., and manual watering from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. The City of Pitt Meadows says these rules apply to all residential properties using municipal water.
The region began 2026 at Stage 2 on May 1, the first time it has skipped Stage 1 to start the season. The decision was driven by snowpack at roughly half of normal and the First Narrows Crossing supply pipe being offline for construction. Metro Vancouver then escalated to Stage 3 on June 8 before returning to Stage 2 on July 16 once the pipe was back in service.
With reservoir levels now back to typical September ranges, the region dropped to Stage 1. “The change reflects reservoir levels that are within the typical range for this time of year,” according to the City of Pitt Meadows, relaying Metro Vancouver’s announcement.
Metro Vancouver supplies water to roughly 2.8 million people through the Capilano, Seymour, and Coquitlam reservoirs. Pitt Meadows is one of 21 member municipalities that enforces the regional water rules.
