Fort Saskatchewan High School students are asking the community to bring in toonies this month as part of a fundraiser for cancer research. The school announced the Toonies for Terry campaign in a daily bulletin on September 15, 2026, with a goal of raising $500.
Students can donate during special collection days on September 17 and 24. A school run is scheduled for September 28, 2026, to wrap up the effort. Donations can also be dropped off at the school office or given to Mr. H, a staff member coordinating the fundraiser.
“Our goal is $500,” the bulletin states. “Every single donation makes a difference. Let’s show how strong our school community can be.” The announcement asks students to bring energy and invite friends to take part.
This year’s campaign follows a historic milestone for the Terry Fox Foundation. On February 4, 2026, the foundation announced it had surpassed $1 billion in funds raised for cancer research since Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope began in 1980. The foundation now funds more than 1,300 cancer research projects across Canada.
Elk Island Public Schools has participated in the Terry Fox School Run since 1992. Last year, schools in the division raised more than $63,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Fort Saskatchewan High School is one of 43 schools in the division, which serves about 17,750 students.
The Toonies for Terry format encourages small, accessible donations from students, with each toonie adding up toward the $500 target. The school bulletin lists the upcoming collection dates and run, keeping the fundraiser front and centre for students and families.
