Thompson, Manitoba is in for a stretch of unseasonably warm weather this week, with temperatures climbing to 22 C on Tuesday and 21 C on Wednesday, according to Environment Canada.
The forecast calls for mainly sunny skies on Monday and Tuesday before clouds start to move in later in the week. The normal high for this time of year is around 11 C, so residents can expect temperatures about 10 degrees above seasonal.
At 1:00 PM CDT on Monday, September 21, 2026, conditions at Thompson Airport were partly cloudy with a temperature of 20 C and winds from the west southwest at 22 km/h gusting to 33 km/h. The air quality was rated as excellent.
The warm spell is caused by an upper level ridge of high pressure building over Western Canada, which is pushing temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above normal from southern British Columbia to Nunavut.
According to Senior Climatologist David Phillips of Environment Canada, this fits a pattern of warmer than normal falls in Manitoba. The fall of 2025 was the warmest in 80 years, while the fall of 2024 was the second warmest.
The summer like conditions will be short lived. Rain is expected to return on Thursday, with temperatures dropping back to around 14 C by Sunday, September 27.
