The warm spell is expected to end abruptly later this week. Environment Canada’s extended forecast for the Leduc-Camrose-Wetaskiwin region shows clouds moving in on Thursday, followed by periods of rain Thursday night and rain on Friday. Daytime highs will fall to just 9°C on Friday, with overnight lows near 1°C by Saturday night.
The unusual warmth is being driven by a strengthening El Niño, with NOAA reporting a greater than 90% chance of a very strong El Niño during fall and winter 2026-2027. A warmer and drier fall is expected to provide a longer runway for delayed harvest operations after a stormy summer left Alberta farmers behind schedule.
