The Region of Durham is bringing back its mobile hubs this spring to help people in Ajax, Ontario, get their government identification and apply for financial benefits. These events are designed to help residents with low incomes navigate the many steps often needed to get government support. By bringing different services to one place, the region hopes to make it easier for people to get the money and help they are entitled to.
The Ajax event will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Ajax Public Library located at 55 Harwood Avenue South. From 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., staff will be on hand to help residents get or replace Social Insurance Numbers, birth certificates, and Ontario driver’s licences. People can also get help with their health cards and other forms of photo ID.
Experts from Service Canada and Service Ontario will also be available to help residents sign up for the Canadian Dental Care Plan and the Canada Disability Benefit. Residents can also get help filing their taxes for free or opening savings accounts for their children’s future education through the Canada Learning Bond. These services are provided by community volunteers and government workers at no cost to the resident.
According to regional data, these events have helped many families in the past. Between 2019 and 2024, residents at these hubs submitted 299 Canada Learning Bond applications, which could eventually provide $598,000 for students. This program is part of a larger effort to ensure all community members can access the more than 40 different government benefits that are currently available.
For those who cannot attend the spring event, the Community Development Council Durham provides similar help with identification throughout the year for people living in Ajax and Pickering. Residents are encouraged to visit the library during the hub event to see which benefits they might be eligible for.
