Ajax residents can expect a sunny start to the week before unsettled weather moves in, according to Environment Canada. Monday will be mainly sunny with a high of 25°C and a humidex of 28. The UV index will reach 9, which is considered very high.
Environment Canada warns that sun protection is important when the UV index is this high. People should stay in the shade during peak hours, wear sunglasses, and apply sunscreen every two hours, especially between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Conditions will change on Tuesday as a few showers begin early in the morning. There is also a risk of a thunderstorm. Winds will become southwest at 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h. The high will be 24°C with a humidex of 31.
Showers could linger into Wednesday. The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 percent chance of showers and a high of 22°C. By Thursday, skies are expected to clear, bringing sunny conditions and a high near 26°C. No weather alerts are currently in effect for Ajax.
On Lake Ontario, a Strong Wind Warning is in place for the eastern section. Winds are expected to pick up early Tuesday morning, with waves possibly reaching one metre. Boaters and swimmers should be cautious.
