Job seekers in Amherst, Nova Scotia, will have the opportunity to connect with local employers and access support services during a community job fair on May 20, 2026. The four-hour event is taking place at the Amherst Stadium, located at 185 Church St.
Organized by Nova Scotia Works CANSA, the event aims to bring together individuals looking for work and companies currently hiring in sectors such as trades, health care, and retail. Under the leadership of executive director Liz Cooke-Sumbu, the organization provides ongoing support to unemployed and underemployed residents in Cumberland County through career counselling, resume assistance, and job search help.
This job fair is part of a broader provincial effort to modernize employment support. Following a $23 million redesign of the province’s employment services system, organizations like the Cumberland African Nova Scotian Association were rebranded under the Nova Scotia Works banner to provide more consistent, front-line services. These improvements have included renovations to the main office at 63 East Victoria Street and the addition of a satellite location in Springhill.
Residents seeking additional support can also visit the Amherst Service Canada Centre at 26 Prince Arthur Street, Unit 202. That office provides in-person assistance for federal programs including Employment Insurance, the Canada Pension Plan, and passport services.
