The Amherst Stadium will shut its doors for nearly three weeks to get the ice surface back in place for another season. The closure runs from Friday, August 7 through Monday, August 25, with the facility opening again on Tuesday, August 26. Staff will use the downtime to re-install the ice and handle yearly maintenance inside the arena at 185 Church Street in Amherst, Nova Scotia.
The break is a routine part of the arena’s calendar each year, clearing space for summer events before the winter sports season begins. An exception has been made for the EXIT 1 Summer Bash on August 13, when the stadium will be open. Otherwise, residents who rely on the ice for hockey, figure skating, or public skating need to plan around the three-week gap.
The timing is important for local sports groups. The Amherst Ramblers have already released their 2026-27 Maritime Hockey League schedule and will be gearing up on fresh ice right after the reopening. The Amherst Skating Club will also resume its programs once the facility is back in use.
The Town of Amherst owns and runs the stadium, which has been a community hub since it was built in 1959. Along with hosting major tenants like the Ramblers, Cumberland County Minor Hockey, and the skating club, the arena runs a pilot program that offers free public skating and waives ice rental fees for youth hockey and figure skating to help lower registration costs for families.
