The Town of Amherst is putting traffic restrictions in place on Beacon Street near the ball fields this Saturday and Sunday, July 18 and 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
The restrictions are needed for the U11 AA Provincial Qualifiers and Amherst All Stars Qualifiers being held at the Beacon Street ball fields. Only local traffic will be allowed through, with barricades set up at the Beacon and East Pleasant intersection as well as the Beacon and Croft intersection.
The U11 AA Provincial Qualifier is hosted by Amherst at Ernest Landry Memorial Field on Croft Street. Three teams are competing in the round robin: Amherst, Stellarton, and Hants North. The tournament features six scheduled games over two days, with a seventh championship game possible on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. if needed.
This is a qualifying event for Baseball Nova Scotia. Qualifying tournaments are held when more than eight teams register in a division, and they determine the tiering for the provincial championships.
The town’s announcement reminds drivers to expect delays and plan alternate routes during tournament hours. A similar traffic setup was used for the Amherst Little League All Star Tournament in June.
