Drivers travelling near Amherst, Nova Scotia, are facing delays this week as the Nova Scotia Department of Public Works conducts maintenance on Highway 104. The work is taking place on April 8 and April 9, 2026.
Motorists are advised to expect slower travel times while crews complete the necessary infrastructure repairs. This section of the highway, which functions as a critical four-lane divided freeway, serves as a primary route through northern Nova Scotia.
Despite the maintenance activity, provincial officials have confirmed that safety measures are in place to ensure that emergency vehicles, including those from the Amherst Fire Department, can continue to respond to calls without interruption. The department provides emergency services to approximately 10,000 residents in Amherst and surrounding areas of the Municipality of Cumberland.
