Antigonish drivers should plan for stop-and-go traffic beginning Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as the Town of Antigonish Public Works crews start pothole patching on Main Street, work that will also affect Court Street and College Street during the first week.
According to a public notice from the Town of Antigonish, work on Main Street potholes will wrap up at 3 p.m. each day. Once Main Street is complete, patching will move on to Fairview Street, Highland Drive, Braemore Avenue, and Hawthorne Street.
The additional patching comes after the town doubled its asphalt patching budget from $250,000 to $500,000 for 2026-2027 in response to a harsh winter and the resulting pothole damage. The town is also investing more than $19 million in capital projects this year, including work on water, sewer, electric utility, and roadways.
Motorists are advised to use caution in work zones and plan for delays. The Town of Antigonish asks drivers to slow down and watch for crews as they work to improve road conditions.
