The Town of Banff, Alberta, is hiring staff to help visitors find their way around the downtown core as a major construction project on Caribou Street enters its final months. These Caribou Street Ambassadors will guide tourists toward local shops and restaurants to make sure businesses stay busy while the road is being rebuilt.
The $6.8 million project is a major update to the town’s oldest infrastructure, including the replacement of water and sewer pipes that have been in the ground for over a century. The work is designed to modernize these utility systems while also making the street safer and more accessible for people on foot.
Construction work resumed this spring after a winter break, and the town aims to have the major parts of the project finished by July 2026. When it is done, the street will be a flat surface without curbs, which will look and feel like the pedestrian-friendly layout used on Bear Street.
Applications for the ambassador positions are open now in March 2026 for residents who know the area well and enjoy helping visitors. By hiring these guides, the town hopes to reduce the impact of construction and keep the downtown atmosphere welcoming during the busy spring season.
