The Barrie Colts took a commanding 3-1 series lead in their Ontario Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinal matchup after defeating the Niagara IceDogs 9-6 on April 2, 2026, at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines.
The Colts established their dominance early, scoring five goals in the first 11 minutes of the game. By the middle of the second period, Barrie had built an 8-1 lead. Although the IceDogs attempted a comeback by capitalizing on six consecutive power plays, the Colts held on to secure the victory. In total, the Colts outshot the IceDogs 30-27.
Key offensive performances led the way for Barrie. Co-captain Cole Beaudoin and forward Emil Hemming each recorded four-point nights, with two goals and two assists apiece. Forward Ben Wilmott added two goals in the win, while co-captain Kashawn Aitcheson contributed three assists. Goaltender Ben Hrebik made 21 saves to earn his third win of the series.
The win comes amid a strong season for the team. Under first-year head coach Dylan Smoskowitz, who set a franchise record with 44 wins, the Barrie Colts finished as Central Division champions. Following the game, it was announced on April 3, 2026, that Beaudoin has been named a finalist for the William Hanley Trophy, which is awarded annually to the most sportsmanlike player in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Colts will have the opportunity to close out the series at home during Game 5 on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 7:30 PM at Sadlon Arena in Barrie. If the team advances, they are set to face the Ottawa 67’s in the second round.
