The Kempenfelt Community Players are looking for local creative teams to pitch musical ideas for a two-week run in the spring of 2027 in Barrie, Ontario. This search gives local directors and producers a chance to bring new shows to the community stage while providing more opportunities for residents to audition and volunteer.
Interested teams must submit their plans, including a theatre resume and their artistic vision, by March 31, 2026. The group is specifically looking for musicals that feature a large cast of characters to showcase a wide range of local amateur talent.
The chosen musical will be performed at the Five Points Theatre in downtown Barrie, which can seat between 120 and 200 people. While the organization is run by volunteers, they offer a set payment called an honorarium to those in leadership roles like directors and production leads.
This call for shows comes as the City of Barrie prepares for major changes to its local arts scene. Construction on a new 73.3-million-dollar performing arts centre is expected to begin in the spring of 2027, at the same time this community production will take the stage.
