The Barrie Police Service rescued a 90-year-old woman in Barrie, Ontario, after she spent four days trapped in her bathtub. Officers found the woman in November 2025 during a wellness check and shared the details of the rescue on March 10, 2026, to highlight the importance of community safety programs.
Family members asked police to check on the woman after she stopped answering her phone and did not show up for a transit pickup. When officers arrived at the home, they heard faint calls for help coming from the bathroom. They found the woman inside an empty bathtub where she had fallen and was unable to get back up.
Sgt. James Westcott described the rescue as an effort to safely extract the resident and provide immediate care. Officers kept the woman warm until paramedics arrived to take her to a local hospital. Police used the event to remind residents about the Vulnerable Person Registry, which helps officers find emergency contact information and medical needs for people who might need extra help.
The city also offers a program called Project Lifesaver through a partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County. This service is designed to help police quickly locate residents with health or safety needs that make them more vulnerable if they are alone or go missing.
