A 49-year-old Barrie woman is facing an attempted murder charge after a stabbing on North Street on Thursday, August 6, 2026, that left a 41-year-old woman seriously injured.
Barrie police say they responded to reports of an apparent stabbing at a downtown housing complex just before 5 p.m. The victim was rushed to a local hospital and later airlifted by Ornge air ambulance to a Toronto-area hospital for further treatment.
Investigators say security video from inside the building showed the victim entering a stairwell with the suspect following behind, armed with a knife. Moments later, the suspect left the stairwell alone.
Police learned through their investigation that the two women knew each other and had a history of conflict. The suspect, identified as Charlene Sheridan, was located inside a unit at the complex and arrested without incident.
Sheridan has been charged with attempted murder under the Criminal Code of Canada. None of the allegations have been tested in court.
This incident adds to a recent spike in violent crime in Barrie. Police statistics show one homicide and three attempted murders reported in the city over the past year, with most incidents concentrated in the downtown core.
