The Barrie Affordability Committee will host a public meeting on June 3, 2026, to discuss a proposal for a large residential project on Essa Road in Barrie, Ontario. The meeting, which allows for both in-person and virtual participation, serves as a formal opportunity for residents to review the plans and offer their input.
The application, submitted by MHBC Planning Limited on behalf of Saverino Developments Inc., outlines plans to construct two high-rise buildings and several townhouse blocks at 550-576 Essa Road. If approved, the site would add a 16-storey building, an 18-storey building at the corner of Essa Road and Mapleton Avenue, and 84 townhouse units to the area. This project would also require the demolition of four existing single-detached homes.
The developer is seeking to change how the land is used and categorized in city documents, specifically requesting to redesignate the property from “Neighbourhood Area” to “High Density.” The project is located within an area designated for intensification, which the city uses to help meet housing targets set by the Province of Ontario. An eight-storey building currently under construction at 558 Essa Road would remain part of the final site layout.
The public meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Barrie City Hall. Residents who wish to share their feedback on the proposal must submit their written comments to the city by noon on June 3, 2026.
