On March 11, 2026, the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit arrested and charged two men following separate investigations into the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
A 25-year-old man was charged after a two-month investigation that involved a search warrant at a residence in Springwater Township. This case began when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children sent reports to police about illegal material being uploaded to the internet.
A 53-year-old man from the south end of Barrie also faces charges after a separate four-month investigation. Forensic analysis of digital devices seized from his home revealed more than 100 images of child sexual abuse and exploitation.
These arrests were part of a broader provincial strategy to combat child exploitation. The Barrie Police Service received grant funding from the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General to support these specialized investigations.
