Beaumont residents can resume normal outdoor watering and other water use after the City relaxed restrictions put in place during heavy rainfall last week. The City announced on June 25, 2026, that the measures, which had been in place since June 21, are lifted effective immediately.
Water restrictions were issued after 50 to 75 millimetres of rain overwhelmed the wastewater system, leading to an Alberta Emergency Alert on June 21. Residents were asked to stop all non-essential water use, including showering, flushing toilets, and using laundry machines, to prevent flooding and sewer backups.
“Thank you Beaumont. Your cooperation and understanding during the last few days helped your neighbours,” said Mayor Lisa Vanderkwaak. “Working with our regional partners, our crews now have the wastewater system flowing as it should.”
The 2026 budget includes money for pumping capacity upgrades and a new feedline between the Main and St. Vital pumphouses. The 50th Avenue Water Feedline Project, under construction this summer, will add redundancy to the system. It runs from the Main pumphouse near 57th Street to the St. Vital pumphouse east of 44th Street.
The City is still asking residents to space out heavy water use and wait before emptying pools and hot tubs. More rain is forecast for the coming weekend, and restrictions could return if the system is overwhelmed again. The City also plans to review how it responded to the situation, including how the Emergency Operations Centre handled the event.
