Beaumont RCMP arrested a 40-year-old man following a vehicle theft from a local home on June 11, 2026. The stolen vehicle was later recovered at a rural property in Leduc County with help from RCMP support units and the Edmonton Police Service.
The suspect is now facing charges including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, theft under $5,000, and several Traffic Safety Act violations. Police have not released his name, and the matter is now before the courts.
This arrest comes as property crime continues to drop across Alberta RCMP areas. The force’s Crime Reduction Strategy has helped push selected property crimes to a 10-year low. There was a 13 percent decrease when compared to 2024 and a 32 percent drop since 2016, and so far in 2026 further decreases are being seen.
Beaumont’s RCMP detachment has been working closely with neighbouring agencies to tackle auto theft. Across Alberta RCMP areas, 7,214 vehicles were stolen in 2025, with half-ton trucks being the most common target. Joint operations, like a recent effort between RCMP, Edmonton police, and Alberta Sheriffs that saw 88 wanted people arrested, show how agencies are teaming up to keep communities safe.
Residents can report non-emergency crimes or suspicious activity by calling the province-wide line at 310-RCMP (310-7267), which was launched in April 2025 to make it easier to reach the right detachment. In an emergency, always dial 911.
