Beaumont, Alberta residents can expect a break from recent stormy weather this week, with Environment Canada forecasting mostly sunny and mild conditions through Saturday before showers return Sunday.
The national weather agency’s forecast issued Tuesday morning calls for mainly sunny skies with highs between 23°C and 27°C through to August 1. Tonight, however, brings a 60 percent chance of showers with a risk of a thunderstorm before clearing overnight, with a low of 8°C.
The stretch of pleasant weather follows a summer of record rainfall across the Edmonton region. Environment Canada data shows the area received 511 mm of rain over June and July, far above the typical summer monthly average of 70 to 80 mm.
Heavy downpours earlier this season prompted a water supply emergency alert in Beaumont on June 21, when the city’s wastewater system was overwhelmed and residents were told to stop non-essential water use. Multiple severe thunderstorm watches and even a tornado warning have been issued for parts of the region in July.
Conditions are expected to turn cooler and wetter by Sunday. The forecast calls for cloudy skies and a 60 percent chance of showers with a high of just 17°C. No weather alerts are currently in effect for Beaumont.
The latest observations from the nearby Edmonton International Airport showed misty conditions Tuesday morning, with a temperature of 14°C, 100 percent humidity, and southeast winds at 21 km/h.
