The Town of Beausejour, Manitoba, is finalizing a new three-year plan that sets the rates residents and businesses will pay for garbage and recycling services from 2026 through 2028. The new rules apply to residential, commercial, and industrial properties that receive curbside pickup within the community, though some large institutional and commercial sites with specialized bin service are handled under a separate fee schedule.
Under the updated plan, the yearly cost for most households and businesses starts at $156.27 in 2026. These fees are set to increase slightly over the next two years, rising to $160.18 in 2027 and reaching $164.19 by 2028.
The service includes weekly garbage collection using a municipal tag system, as well as recycling and access to the town compost site. Curbside pickup is handled by Bristal Hauling on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with all items required to be at the curb by 7:00 a.m. Recycling is collected on the same day as garbage for each designated zone.
To help manage the overall cost of the program, the town receives an annual grant of $120,000 from Multi-Material Stewardship Manitoba (MMSM). Even with this provincial funding, the total cost for collecting and disposing of garbage is estimated at $310,977 for 2026, while the net cost for the recycling and composting programs is approximately $128,135.
Mayor Ray Schirle and the Town Council are expected to formally adopt the new bylaw soon to replace the previous contract that expired on December 31, 2025. Although the final vote is still pending, the new fee structure has been the legal framework for local collection services since January 1, 2026.
