Brandon police arrested a 33-year-old man following a break-in at a home in the 500 block of Louise Avenue on April 5, 2026. The Brandon Police Service reported that the suspect caused property damage during the incident, though no items were stolen from the residence.
The suspect was identified by the person living at the home and was arrested by officers who were already in the area. He has since been released on police-imposed conditions and is set to appear in the Brandon Provincial Court on June 15, 2026.
Later that same evening, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the same block on Louise Avenue was the site of an unrelated incident. A 33-year-old man from Winnipeg was arrested and charged after his vehicle struck and sheared off a fire hydrant.
While the recent break-in remains a concern for the community, overall reports of break-ins in the city have seen a decline. Data from the police service shows that calls for break-and-enters dropped from 312 in 2024 to 216 in 2025. Local officials point to the increased presence of community cadets as a contributing factor to this downward trend. There are currently 13 community cadets working in the city, which is three more than the standard number.
