A 69-year-old woman from Melita, Manitoba, died on March 23, 2026, following a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway. The crash took place at the Kemnay turnoff, which is located just west of Brandon.
According to the Blue Hills RCMP, the woman was driving a northbound SUV and attempted to cross the highway around 10:10 a.m. Her vehicle was struck by an eastbound semi-trailer truck, though the truck driver was not injured.
Officers and an RCMP collision reconstructionist closed the eastbound lanes of the highway for several hours to investigate the scene. Police have expressed their condolences to the family of the woman involved.
Melita is a small town located about 100 kilometres southwest of Brandon. Statistics Canada records show the community has a population of approximately 1,041 people.
