Brantford and Brant County residents can safely get rid of old paint, used motor oil, and other household hazardous waste at a free collection event on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Mohawk Street Landfill Site. The drop-off runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 20 Morrison Road, and staff may ask for ID to confirm you live in Brantford or Brant County.
The event is part of a growing partnership between the City of Brantford and the County of Brant. Since 2024, County residents have been able to use all eight Household Hazardous Waste collection days held each year at the Mohawk Street Landfill. Before that, the County offered only a single drop-off day annually, a tradition that dated back to 2000. The expanded schedule means more chances to properly dispose of materials that can harm people, pets, and the environment if they end up in regular trash or poured down the drain.
Accepted items include household paints and cleaners, pool chemicals, batteries, fluorescent lamps, adhesives, pesticides, antifreeze, fuels, and propane tanks. Syringes or sharps must be brought in safe, puncture-proof containers. Residents can also drop off old electronics like monitors, TVs, computers, telephones, and cameras for recycling at the same time.
The July 11 event is the fourth of eight collection days in 2026, with additional dates set for August 8, September 12, October 17, and November 21. The schedule is published in the City’s waste collection calendar, which is available through Circular Materials. The Mohawk Street Landfill operates Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for regular use, but hazardous waste is only accepted during the special event hours.
Throwing hazardous waste in the garbage or down household drains can cause serious damage to water, soil, and wildlife. The city urges everyone to sort materials carefully before arriving and to follow any directions from on-site staff to keep the drop-off smooth and safe.
