Environment Canada is forecasting sunny skies, a high of 26°C, and a humidex of 29 for July 20, 2026. A southwest wind at 20 km/h will offer little relief from the sticky conditions.
The UV index is expected to reach 9, which is considered very high. Health officials are urging anyone outdoors to seek shade during midday hours, wear protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-blocking sunglasses, and apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.
The heat and humidity are set to continue into Tuesday, but the day also brings showers and a risk of thunderstorms. According to the Environment Canada forecast, winds could gust up to 60 km/h in the afternoon, with a high of 25°C and a humidex making it feel like 32.
The hot spell follows a period of very poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke drifting from northwestern Ontario. Mid-July saw the Air Quality Health Index reach hazardous levels in Brantford, but conditions have since improved. No weather alerts were in effect Monday morning, but the combination of heat and high UV levels still calls for caution.
