Bridgewater, Nova Scotia residents can clear out old lumber and scrap metal curbside from September 8 to 11, as South Shore Waste Solutions rolls out its fall wood and metal collection. Items will be picked up on each household’s regular collection day during that window.
The combined limit per Bridgewater home is 100 kilograms (220 pounds) or two cubic metres, with individual items capped at 50 kilograms and 1.8 metres (six feet) long. Wood and metal must be placed in separate piles, and any spikes or brackets over 15 centimetres must be removed from wood before it goes out.
Residents should also drain gas and oil from lawnmowers and other items that contain fluids before setting them at the curb. Household hazardous waste, propane tanks, fridges, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers are not accepted curbside. Those can be dropped off at the South Shore Waste Solutions facility at 908 Mullock Road in Whynott’s Settlement.
