The Halton District School Board has announced that more than 1,200 students will participate in the 34th annual Halton Skills Competition in March 2026 in Burlington, Ontario. This event gives elementary and secondary students a chance to show their expertise in various technical and skilled trades through hands-on challenges.

The elementary portion of the contest takes place on March 25, 2026, and March 26, 2026, at the New Street Education Centre. Older students in secondary school will compete on March 31, 2026, at Nelson High School. A new category for horticulture and landscaping has been added for elementary participants this year.

Curtis Ennis, the Director of Education for the board, said these experiences help students solve problems and learn about different career paths. The competition is part of a multi-year plan to focus on practical learning that prepares students for the workforce.

Winners from the Burlington events may advance to a provincial competition in May 2026. Students who place at the top of the high school categories can also qualify for a national skills contest held at the end of May 2026.
