A driver is facing charges after Camrose Police Service clocked a vehicle going double the speed limit in a 50 km/h zone and then fleeing from officers in early July.
Police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle travelling at 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone during the July 1 to July 11 reporting period, according to the Camrose Police Service. The driver, a 46-year-old woman, initially fled but eventually came to a stop.
Officers used an alcohol screening device, which the driver failed. She was charged with an Immediate Roadside Sanction fail under Alberta’s Traffic Safety Act, which carries a 90-day immediate licence suspension, a 30-day vehicle seizure, and a $1,000 fine for a first offence, plus a mandatory planning ahead course.
The woman was also charged with Criminal Flight under the Criminal Code of Canada and released on an appearance notice to appear in court at a later date. Her vehicle was seized.
The Camrose Police Service, a municipal agency with 62 members, continues to conduct traffic enforcement to keep city roads safe and address speeding and impaired driving concerns in the community.
