Chestermere residents can cap off the summer with a free outdoor movie under the stars. The City of Chestermere has added a new Movie in the Park – Alberta on the Big Screen event to its August calendar, scheduled for August 31, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
The late-August screening joins an already busy month of lakeside entertainment in Chestermere, Alberta. The Wild Rose Shows Summer Carnival ran from August 14 to 16 at the Chestermere Recreation Centre, offering rides, games, and midway attractions. Advance ride bracelets were available for $45 at City Hall, while gate purchases cost $50.
The Summer Music in the Park program also took place on August 14 and 15, featuring nine musical acts including Just Wingin It, Dirty Shirley, and the Greg Vardy Band. Admission was free, with food trucks, a licensed beer garden, and a Saturday vendor market featuring nine local businesses.
The new movie event is not the city’s first foray into outdoor cinema. Chestermere hosted a Cinema in the Park night on May 2 at John Peake Park, where residents voted on movie selections such as Minecraft, Elio, and How to Train Your Dragon. The August 31 event, branded Alberta on the Big Screen, suggests a possible provincial connection, though the specific film has not been announced.
The city updated its events calendar to reflect the new movie night and shifted the dates for the carnival and music events forward by one day. As of August 18, the city had not released attendance figures or final cost details for those events.
