Chestermere residents looking to pick up practical skills like composting, pie making, or container gardening can head to the Chestermere Rec Centre on Saturday, May 30, 2026. The Chestermere Public Library, in partnership with the Rocky View Chestermere Agricultural Society, is presenting “Old Skills, Modern Living: Workshops & Talks @ Country Connections,” a day of hands-on sessions for adults 18 and older as part of the long-running Country Connections event.
The library has lined up four workshops. Urban Bee Keeping Talk & Tour runs from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by Backyard Composting 101 Talk from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., presented by Living Soil Solutions, a Calgary company that specializes in soil health and biologically active compost. The Pie Making Take & Bake Workshop, led by the Rocky View Chestermere Agricultural Society’s Red Ribbon Committee, runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will teach participants how to perfect a crust and filling, with all ingredients provided and a finished pie to take home. The final workshop, Grow to Grill: Mini Container Garden Workshop from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., will be led by Master Gardener and author Sheryl Normandeau. All workshops require separate registration and are open only to adults 18 and over.
Running alongside the workshops is the library’s Seeds and Stories Exchange from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., where anyone can drop in without registration to swap seeds and share family stories. The exchange is part of the broader Country Connections celebration, which has been a community staple for more than 15 years and also features steer riding, pony rides, hay rides, and bee trailer tours.
