A public hearing on July 14 gives Chestermere residents a chance to share their views on a proposed zoning change for a property in the Clearwater Park development. The hearing is part of a regular city council meeting that starts at 10:00 a.m. and will be livestreamed.
The proposed change, known as Bylaw #028-26, aims to fix a split-zoning issue on a single lot in Clearwater Park. Right now, the parcel at Lot 1, Block 2, Plan 241 2540 has two different zoning designations. The city wants to pick just one so future development approvals are simpler.
Council gave the bylaw first reading on June 23 and now needs to hear from the community. The City of Chestermere has outlined two options. Option 1 would change about 0.88 acres in the northern part of the lot from a Direct Control district to a standard Residential Multi-Unit district. Option 2 does the opposite: it would change roughly 5.01 acres in the southern portion from a standard Residential Multi-Unit district to a Direct Control district.
Anyone wanting to submit written feedback for the council’s agenda must send it by Friday, July 3 at 12:00 p.m. Written comments can be emailed to [email protected] or sent through the city’s feedback form. Residents can also speak at the hearing in person.
Clearwater Park is a large planned community in East Chestermere. When finished, it will include more than 3,000 homes, shops, and recreational spaces. The zoning bylaw that governs Chestermere was adopted in May 2024, and any changes must follow a public hearing process under Alberta’s Municipal Government Act.
