Local farms, ranches, and food-based businesses in Rocky View County are being invited to open their gates to the public for the 14th annual Alberta Open Farm Days, set to take place August 15-16, 2026. The province-wide event provides a chance for residents to explore local agriculture firsthand, learn how their food is produced, and connect with the people behind the region’s farms.
The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies organizes the annual program with support from Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation and Travel Alberta. For interested operators, registration is free and remains open until April 30, 2026.
Rocky View County features a significant agricultural landscape, with more than 1,500 farms spread across approximately one million acres of land. Last year, the province-wide event saw record-breaking interest, drawing 52,783 visitors and generating $331,676 in on-farm sales. Over the 13-year history of the program, on-farm sales across the province have surpassed $2 million.
The 2026 event will highlight the theme, Farm Stories: Rangelands, Grasslands & Pastoralists, which aims to showcase the role of grazing lands and livestock producers. In 2025, three local operations in Rocky View County participated in the event, including Souto Farms, Providence Lane Homestead, and Long Grass Studio/Apiarios Estrella Honey.
According to Tim Carson, chief executive officer of the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies, the event continues to build meaningful connections between producers and the public. Interested businesses can find more information about applying to host through the Rocky View County website.
