Residents in Chestermere, Alberta, can expect a significant jump in temperatures this week as daytime highs reach nearly 20 degrees Celsius. According to Environment Canada, temperatures are forecast to hit 18°C from Wednesday, March 18, through Friday, March 20, 2026.
These conditions are much warmer than the typical weather for this time of year. Usually, the community sees a maximum temperature of 5°C and a minimum of -7°C during the month of March.
The region is also expected to experience strong wind gusts early in the week. Forecasters say winds could blow at 50 kilometres per hour and reach gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour during the transition to warmer weather.
The City of Chestermere warns that these fluctuating temperatures make ice on local lakes and ponds dangerous. Officials maintain that no ice is 100 per cent safe, especially as the rapid thaw weakens the ice surface.
