The Town of Cochrane has issued a reminder to all residents regarding local rules against illegal dumping on municipal and private property. As of May 6, 2026, the town is urging the community to use proper disposal methods rather than leaving refuse or debris in unauthorized areas.
Under By-Law 1457-2021, it is illegal to throw or deposit any waste, recyclable materials, yard waste, or bulky items on any street or property without the owner’s permission. Residents who are found violating these rules may face a set fine of $400. Additionally, the Cleaning & Clearing of Land By-law establishes fines of $300 for unlawfully depositing refuse on municipal or private land.
The Infrastructure Services Department manages local waste disposal, offering weekly curbside collection for household waste through green bins and recycling through blue bins. As of January 1, 2025, residential recycling is managed by Circular Materials, with collection services provided by GFL Environmental.
For larger items or extra waste, residents can use the municipal Fournier Landfill Site. The facility is currently operating on its summer schedule, which runs from April 1 to September 30. During this period, the site is open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. In the winter months, hours change to 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the same days.
