The Town of Collingwood’s water treatment plant expansion reached a major milestone at the end of July 2026, adding 5,000 cubic metres of daily water production capacity. The additional supply is now online, supporting both Collingwood and New Tecumseth.
The $270 million project, which includes $150 million in provincial funding, is the largest infrastructure investment in the town’s history. Construction began in July 2024 and remains on schedule and on budget.
Under the existing water agreement, about 37 percent of the new capacity is allocated to Collingwood and 63 percent to New Tecumseth. The expanded plant will eventually increase total capacity from 32,000 to 59,000 cubic metres per day, serving residents in Collingwood, New Tecumseth, and The Blue Mountains for decades.
Crews are nearing the end of excavation work on the Georgian Bay shoreline site, with about 1.5 metres of digging remaining before reaching the final depth for the new treatment building. Additional water supply is expected to come online in late 2029, with full construction completed in 2032.
The provincial contribution includes $70 million announced in September 2024 and an additional $80 million provided in April 2026. The increased funding allowed the Town of Collingwood to reduce development charges by more than half, with rates for single and semi-detached homes dropping from $9,563 to $4,641.
