The City of Colwood has authorized moving forward with the expansion of the West Shore RCMP detachment after local leaders secured new financial safeguards for the project. The decision follows a period of debate where city officials demanded more oversight and accountability for the multi-million dollar construction plan.
Councillor Kim Jordison led the call for an independent financial review and specific rules to manage how taxpayer money is spent on the regional facility. The expansion at 698 Atkins Avenue in Langford is a joint effort between Colwood, the City of Langford, and the Town of View Royal to modernize a station that is currently over capacity.
The project is expected to cost up to $103 million and will be funded through a loan from the Capital Regional District. In 2023, the municipalities partnered with the real estate firm Colliers to use an Integrated Project Delivery model intended to manage the construction process across the different communities.
While the project’s early development began under the previous administration of former Mayor Rob Martin, the current Colwood council moved ahead with the expansion in March 2026 only after the new accountability measures were put in place.
