The Pacific Centre Family Services Association is hosting a summit on April 15, 2026, to help organizations in Colwood, British Columbia, and Sooke work together better to support local seniors. The event will run from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion branch in Langford to find ways to improve health and support resources for older adults.
The meeting will focus on sharing ideas and building stronger partnerships between local non-profits and the City of Colwood and Sooke. Organizers want to make it easier for seniors to find and use services like transportation through the SeniorsRide Connect program and various social meal plans.
This effort comes as the number of seniors in the province has grown by 45 per cent over the last ten years. Recent census data shows that the population in Sooke grew by 16 per cent and Colwood grew by 12.5 per cent, which has put more pressure on local support systems.
The Westshore Community Health Centre is currently working to provide coordinated healthcare to people in the area. Local coordination is becoming more important because a planned 300-bed care home in Colwood has faced delays while the government works on design standards.
The Sooke Region Communities Health Network and other partners are looking at how to best use provincial funding for programs like Better at Home. While the province is investing $304 million into these services over five years, local groups are meeting to ensure these resources reach seniors who need them most.
